ESPNBoston has reported that negotiations between the Bruins, and Brad Marchand have been picking up. Marchand has told the media that a deal will get done, and that he wants to remain a member of the Boston Bruins.
This author thinks that Marchand will probably get a short contract between 2-3 million dollars. Marchand should want a short contract to prove he is worth more when he becomes a unrestricted free agent. If Marchand continues to grow, he is going to demand some big money the next time he is up for a new contract.
Marchand had 41 points last season, and he followed that up by adding 17 points in 21 playoff games. Marchand also had two goals in game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. Marchand became a fixture on the Bruins second line with Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi as the year went on.
Marchand instantly became a Bruins fan favorite this year. Sean Avery has become a Brad Marchand. Marchand has the ability to be a top six forward with his skill set, but he also gets into his opponents head quite often like Sean Avery. Whether Marchand is punching Daniel Sedin in the face or chirping away, he gets under his opponents skin often.
